Moving to a new city is manageable when you work a timeline. This checklist covers everything from eight weeks out to your first week settled in Artesia, NM.

8 Weeks Out

Secure your housing first. Everything else flows from having an address. Contact Artesia Residence at (505) 615-9229 to check unit availability for your move-in date. Units fill quickly, especially during FLETC enrollment peaks and oil and gas rotation turnovers. Start researching employer relocation benefits and get quotes from at least three moving companies.

4 Weeks Out

Notify your current landlord of your move-out date. Forward your mail—USPS mail forwarding takes 5 to 7 business days to activate. Set up utilities for your new address including electric, water, internet, and renter’s insurance before your move-in date. Begin packing non-essential items.

2 Weeks Out

Confirm your moving company or truck rental in writing. Update your address with banks, credit cards, subscriptions, and HR. The IRS, Social Security Administration, and voter registration also require address updates.

Moving Week

Do a final walkthrough of your current residence. Pack an essentials bag that travels with you—not in the moving truck. Include two days of clothing, phone charger, medications, important documents, and basic toiletries. Confirm your move-in time with Artesia Residence.
